I’m seeing so many tweets, youtube comments, and just ridiculous propaganda saying: “FARRAKHAN SUPPORTING TRUMP”, with intentions to once again destroy the Nation of Islam, and our reputation. Why are they saying this? After Donald Trump’s ludicrous statements about Syrian refugees, Minister Louis Farrakhan in an interview with Alex Jones mentioned the candidate, saying he is wise to vet them carefully since the hatred of America in the Muslim World is rising. In other words, “If you’re smart you would do x,y,z.” The minister has also made comments that he likes Trump because he’s not bought and paid for. Some have taken this and twisted it to say that he, and the Nation of Islam, support Trump. Allow me to explain why that is so far from the truth.
First of all, Trump’s racist and Islamophobic rhetoric has been the foundation of his campaign. Why would a man guiding a Muslim nation filled with black/Latino people support a man who hates Muslims, blacks, and Latinos? It is literally contradictory to a good amount of people within that group.
Secondly, Trump’s stances on the refugees is slightly different than The Minister’s. Donald Trump for the record, has said that those refugees should not enter in the United States, at all, Christian or not. His hatred for immigrants is highly toxic, rooted in racism, islamophobia, and xenophobia. He doesn’t want any refugees to come in, and if they do, he wants to send them back afterwards.
Minister Farrakhan advising that we should vet refugees carefully doesn’t mean to not let them in. The definition of vet is: to make a careful and critical examination of (something). We “vet” all the time here in the states. Airport security for instance? Or even in the Nation of Islam, and the entire check process when entering our mosques or study groups? Even a lot of public schools today have metal detectors to examine carefully all of the students coming in. Is this not vetting? This doesn’t mean we don’t let them in, it just means that if you are going to let in people into an establishment, or in this case a country, you should examine them carefully. Why? Because, as The Minister reminds us in the Alex Jones interview, America created the “ refugee problem,” stirring dissatisfaction in those Muslim countries. If you had a hand in destroying a nation, and then letting them in your home, would you not expect some to have anger towards you? But maybe they’re not angry, just desperate. But vet, investigate, to make sure.
I also find this quite ironic: If Trump becomes president, everyone’s talking about moving out of the country. Would you want those countries to have the same attitude that you have for Syrian refugees, now towards you? Americans can choose any country to settle into, and expect to easily enter into that place, but deny access to everyone else begging to come in. It’s usually White, Republican, Christian, Americans with this attitude. Are you forgetting about the Pilgrims who came to America fleeing from religious persecution? Not too long ago, you were the “refugees”.
Too often Minister Louis Farrakhan is misunderstood (sometimes intentionally), and I for one am tired of the lies told against him. The Nation of Islam is not endorsing Trump. The Minister did not suggest we vote for him. We don’t wear “Make America Great Again” hats. Why would a Trump Supporter tell his followers that the candidate if elected will take America “into the abyss of hell”? Stop trying to jump to conclusions without trying to get some understanding first. Why not ask a member of the Nation of Islam if the accusations were even true? The Minister has various social media platforms, two of which he takes questions (Facebook and Twitter). Why not ask? See, now you look foolish. Perhaps if you stop tuning into propaganda, and start searching for truth, maybe things will turn out better for you.
